![]() ![]() They should have updated the 744 many years ago. That is a peeve of mine with Sound Devices that still makes and sells recorders like the 744T with 160GB hard drives and CF card slots. Even $500 Lenovo laptops have USB 3.x ports. USB 2 provides only 10% of the data throughput of USB 3.0 so it is incredible that Dell would treat its customers so poorly. The throughput is also greatly decreased with any conversion device as this is not a simple electrical pin-out mod. You can try using a USB to Firewire device but you can expect problems with the drivers as they have not likely been updated for Windows 7 much less Windows 10. I still have a slide scanner that uses this interface and use a tower computer with a Firewire PCI card installed. ![]() It was only used by Apple and they have moved on to Thunderbolt and USB-C. You can use the restore partition to put the laptop back to the state it was in when you first took it out of the box.įirewire is a dead standard at this time. ![]() Most merchants will allow a return for full credit if the laptop is in its original packaging and with all the documentation intact. USB 3 ports have been standard on computers since at least 2010 (and introduced as a new standard in 2008 which is a very long time in "computer years"). I also buy Lenovo laptops as they can be ordered with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installed along with an anytime upgrade to Windows 10 (if I every get to feeling stupid). Any laptop I buy has to have a 1GB Ethernet port, 2-3 USB 3 ports, SD card reader, and SSD drive. I would return the laptop and start over. ![]()
